Flexispot sent us their E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk. We checked it out thoroughly to determine if it’s beneficial to you.

Note: Flexispot sent us the E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk with a bamboo desktop and black C-frame. However, this is a completely independent review. All thoughts about this desk are our own.

Pros

  • This is beyond sturdy and does not shake, so much so that it may be the safest place to hide during a hurricane or catastrophic alien invasion
  • Raising and lowering is extremely smooth, even with hundreds of pounds on the table
  • Easy to assemble
  • Raises and lowers an immense 440 pounds (199.58 kg)
  • Attractive
  • Programmable touchpad with USB port for charging
  • Custom height presets
  • Locking mechanism keeps the desk in place from accidental bumps on the touchpad
  • Cable tray with magnetic fabric cable cover underneath keeps the cables out of view and out of reach
  • Self-gripping tape and cable clips help you stay organized
  • Well-packaged to minimize the chance of damage
  • Anti-collision safety function
  • Did I mention that the touchpad has a USB charger?

Cons

  • The base alone weighs 69 pounds. Even more fun, the shipping weight is a little over 86 pounds. This is a con when trying to lift the box or move the table. However, it’s a pro due to strength, durability, and stability. This more than cancels the con out, in my opinion.

Flexispot E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk — Assembly

Let’s start off with assembly since this seems to be a concern. I know this because I can read minds.

  • Yes, you have to assemble it.
  • Yes, it’s very easy to assemble. I assembled the C-frame in under 20 minutes. I’m not super handy, either, but it’s very easy and the instructions are very clear.
  • No, you don’t need many tools, just a Philips screwdriver — the same amount of tools you might need for assembling Ikea furniture. No drill is needed although you could use one to tighten the bolts if you wish. Allen wrenches are included.
  • Yes, the directions are excellent, with a large printed book to show you what to do and what parts you need.
  • No, you don’t need to do anything with the motors, which are built into the supports. Just plug them in, and you’re done.
  • Um, yeah. It’s heavy. Really heavy.

I received the Flexispot E7 Pro Standing Desk in two separate packages. They both arrived simultaneously. Both were packaged well to minimize the chance of damage. For the previous desk I received from Flexispot, the packages arrived separately, with one arriving the following day.

The packaging on the C-frame advises you to use two people to lift it. This is good advice. Always a rebel, I did defy the advice, although I used my newly-fixed, if incredibly rusty, hand truck. The shipping weight is 86.6 pounds (39.28 kg), so that hand truck was, well, handy.

In this review, I will use “desk” and “table” interchangeably to describe the E7 Pro … simply because I can.

Assembly instructions

The instruction book for assembly is written very well. We all dread some of those installation guides with their tiny and confounding “exploded view” diagrams. This one, however, is nice and large with nice, clear diagrams, telling what hardware you need for each step.

Flexispot E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk — Ergonomics and build quality

Ergonomics

Given that you have a height-adjustable table that can lift 2,434 cups of coffee (according to Flexispot!), you can’t help but have a comfortable experience. If you wanted, you could just purchase the C-frame and attach any surface to it. Being able to raise and lower everything quickly and easily is great if you want a standing office desk or a work desk. Either way, it’s fantastic.

Build quality

If you are in imminent danger of nuclear attack or a catastrophic earthquake, there are probably few other places in your house where you might be safer than under this desk. It’s solid. And strong. It’s capable of lifting immense weights without breaking a sweat.

I know. Tables don’t ordinarily sweat.

For instance, a newborn baby African elephant can weigh up to 364 pounds. This table lifts 440 pounds (199.58 kg). It’ll lift your equipment. And it’ll do it smoothly and quietly. I don’t recommend that you rock tables back and forth. However, if you do, this one will stand strong.

Additionally, the bamboo desktop feels durable. Obviously, I don’t have the benefit of many months or years to test its durability. However, bamboo is coveted for its durability and is often used for flooring. It’s also attractive and sustainable. Flexispot also says that their bamboo desktop is “free of harmful chemicals and comes with temperature-resistant and anti-wear coating to ensure the desktop lasts a lifetime.”

Flexispot E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk — In the field

I field tested the table in the untamed wilderness, otherwise known as my home office. You snicker, but it doubles as a control room for a studio. You try and make your way out of that spaghetti bowl of audio cables!

I have used the Flexispot E7 Pro for assembling several items: a Zoom call, stretching while reading email, a video podcast, editing photos, writing articles for Photofocus, and numerous other things. I like to do video podcasts while standing because I feel more engaged and lively.

Touchpad controls

Utilizing the keypad, it’s very easy to create presets. There are four available. One for sitting, one for standing, and two other presets that are numbered “1” and “2.” To create the preset, you simply adjust the table to the desired height, press the “M” button, and then press the button where you wish to store the preset. And think of the power you have at your fingertips, knowing that you could raise and lower an adult California brown bear on your table with a simple press of a button.

Child Lock (really, the Adult Lock)

There’s also what they call a “Child Lock.” This keeps the desk from rising or lowering.

In reality, it should probably be called an “Adult Lock”. While wiring some audio cables to my recording studio setup, I somehow leaned on the touchpad and caused it to move up slightly. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t be stretching over the desktop like I was, but it bears mentioning. You can get around this by pressing the “M” button for several seconds. The touchpad will beep three times, flash “LOC” and activate a blue light indicator. To unlock it, simply hold the “M” button for several seconds again.

Anti-collision safety function

The E7 Pro has an anti-collision safety function. This is a safety feature that prevents the desk from crashing into things when you are adjusting the height. This works remarkably well. You are in no danger of this damaging anything unless you put an enormous three-foot tall pile of eggs underneath your desk.

The touchpad has a USB charger!

I know, I’m slightly too excited about having a USB charger. But can you name one person who has ever said that there are too many USB chargers in a workspace? Yeah, same here. And when it’s tucked out of the way but still quite accessible, it’s a wonderful thing. I purchased a Puxnoin multi-charging cable to charge my iPhone, Zhiyun LED lights, and other things.

Cable tray

Flexispot provides a cable tray, which tucks away the various cables used by the table. This not only makes it neater and more attractive, but also stops you (or your child, pet, or pesky gnome) from inadvertently yanking on the cables. Flexispot also offers additional cable management tray options for an additional cost.

Flexispot E7 Pro Premium Standing Desk — Bonuses

Health

One of the bonuses of an adjustable desk is that, well, it’s adjustable. We as humans are made to move. We shouldn’t sit for long periods of time. But neither should we stand in one place for long periods of time. An adjustable desk allows you to easily alternate between sitting and standing.

Access

Another bonus I found early on was the ability to access cords and my other computer. As mentioned, I use the room as a small control room for my recording studio. In fact, I have two computers, one of which is an old Mac tower. And as with most recording studios, I have cables. Lots of cables. Having a table that adjusts heights allows me to easily access many of the cables underneath or in the back without crawling around a tight space and slamming my head against the bottom of the desktop. It feels like a luxury to be able to simply press a button to access some of the hard-to-reach places.

Projects

Sometimes, just to adjust things, I’ve found that I like to make small, incremental adjustments so that I can see something easier, or that I just simply need a change of pace. Even if I continue sitting, it’s nice to be able to adjust the table, even if only by a couple of inches.

But more than that, I find that if I am assembling something or need the table for another project, I can raise the desk to an optimal level.

Standing tables and you

Do you use a standing table? Do you feel it’s improved your health? What do you use it for? I have used the Flexispot E7 desk, a close sibling of the desk I am reviewing, for three months now and cannot say enough nice things about it. For this previous desk, I purchased a Sky Solutions anti-fatigue floor mat with acupressure points and more. I have been using this for several months and like it. But, of course, I alternate between sitting and standing.
