Flexispot sent us their E7 Premium Standing Desk. We check it out and help determine if it might be beneficial to you.
Note: Flexispot sent us the E7 Premium Standing Desk with a bamboo desktop and black T-frame. However, this is a completely independent review. All thoughts about this desk are our own.
Pros
- Sturdy. Really sturdy.
- Easy to assemble.
- Raises and lowers 355 pounds (161 kg).
- Attractive
- Programmable touchpad with USB port for charging
- Custom height presets
- Locking mechanism keeps the desk in place from accidental bumps of the touchpad
- Cable tray underneath keeps the cables out of view and out of reach
- Well-packaged to minimize the chance of damage
- Anti-collision safety function
- Did I mention that the touchpad has a USB charger?
Cons
- The base is heavy. This is a con when trying to lift the box or move the table. However, it’s a pro due to strength, durability, and stability. This more than cancels the con out, in my opinion.

Flexispot E7 Premium Standing Desk — Assembly
Let’s start off with assembly since this seems to weigh on people’s minds. You have questions. And we have answers.
- Yes, you have to assemble it.
- Yes, it’s very easy to assemble. I assembled the T-frame in about 17 or 18 minutes. I’m not super handy, either, but it’s very easy and the instructions are very clear.
- No, you don’t need many tools, just a Philips screwdriver. No drill is needed.
- Yes, the directions are excellent, with a large printed book to show you what to do and parts you need.
- No, you don’t need to do anything with the motors, which are built into the supports. Just plug them in and you’re done.
I received the Flexispot E7 Standing Desk in two separate packages. The 69-pound (31.29 kg) black metal T-frame arrived one day. The next day, I received the 55″ x 28″ (1.38 x 0.71 meters) bamboo table. Everything was well-packaged to minimize the chance of incurring damage in transit.
The packaging on the T-frame advises you to use two people to lift it. This is good advice. I’m not always good at following advice, so I did lift it myself. However, I used a hand truck. The shipping weight is 76 pounds (34.47 kg), so it’s hefty.

Assembly instructions
The instruction book for assembly is written very well. We all dread some of those installation guides with their tiny and confounding “exploded view” diagrams. This one, however, is nice and large with nice, clear diagrams, telling what hardware you need for each step.
The one exception to the well-written assembly instructions might be installing the cable tray, which comes at the end of the entire process. It’s not that attaching the cable tray is difficult. It’s not. But I don’t feel it’s very clear how to attach it. It’s easiest to simply screw in the four screws halfway, slide the cable tray in, and then gently tighten the screws the rest of the way to stop the tray from wiggling. That’s it. Everything else is explained very clearly.
Flexispot E7 Premium Standing Desk — Ergonomics and build quality
Ergonomics
It’s a table, so there’s not much to say about it other than that Flexispot offers multiple spots to put the touchpad via pre-drilled holes. It’s quite customizable. If you wanted, you could just purchase the frame and attach any surface to it. And certainly, having a sturdy table that raises and lowers by itself is perhaps the ultimate in ergonomics.
Build quality
When you look up “sturdy” in the dictionary, you’ll probably see a picture of a Flexispot E7 standing table. It’s not even rated as commercial duty, but it feels very solid even when you fully raise it.
Speaking of raising the table, it will raise and lower 355 pounds (161 kg). That’s the equivalent weight of the average California Brown Bear or Shaquille O’Neal. So yes, it will hold your computer equipment and tools.
The table raises and lowers quietly and smoothly, which inspires confidence. If you try to rock the table back and forth, even when fully extended, it remains solid.
Additionally, the bamboo desktop feels durable. Obviously, I don’t have the benefit of many months or years to test its durability. However, bamboo is coveted for its durability, and is often used for flooring. It’s also attractive and sustainable. Flexispot also says that their bamboo desktop is “free of harmful chemicals and comes with temperature-resistant and anti-wear coating to ensure the desktop lasts a lifetime.”

Flexispot E7 Premium Standing Desk — In the field
In this case, “the field” refers to the wilds that some call my house. I set up the table in the living room so I would have more room for assembly, and also so it would be easier to make a couple of videos for you. After that, I moved it into my very small second bedroom office.
Touchpad controls
Utilizing the keypad, it’s very easy to create presets. There are four available. One for sitting, one for standing and two other presets that are numbered “1” and “2”. To create the preset, you simply adjust the table to the desired height, press the “M” button, and then press the button where you wish to store the preset.
Child Lock (really, the Adult Lock)
There’s also what they call a “Child Lock.” This keeps the desk from rising or lowering.
In reality, it should probably be called an “Adult Lock”. While wiring some audio cables to my recording studio setup, I somehow leaned on the touchpad and caused it to move up slightly. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t be stretching over the desktop like I was, but it bears mentioning. You can get around this by pressing the “M” button for several seconds. The touchpad will beep three times, flash “LOC” and activate a blue light indicator. To unlock it, simply hold the “M” button for several seconds again.
Anti-collision safety function
The desk has an anti-collision safety function. This is a safety feature that prevents the desk from crashing into things when you are adjusting the height. To test this, I put a pile of magazines and books on top of my tower computer underneath the desk, then brought the desk down using the touchpad. Upon hitting the books, the desk stopped, then went up slightly. The idea is not to cause damage to items around your office or to the desk itself.
The touchpad has a USB charger!
I know, I’m slightly too excited about having a USB charger. But can you name one person who has ever said that there are too many USB chargers in a workspace? Yeah, same here. And when it’s tucked out of the way but still quite accessible, it’s a wonderful thing.
Cable tray
Flexispot provides a cable tray, which tucks away the various cables used by the table. This not only makes it neater and more attractive, but also stops you (or your child, pet, or pesky gnome) from inadvertently yanking on the cables. Flexispot also offers additional cable management tray options for an additional cost.
Flexispot E7 Premium Standing Desk — Bonuses
Health
One of the bonuses of an adjustable desk is that, well, it’s adjustable. We as humans are made to move. We shouldn’t sit for long periods of time. But neither should we stand in one place for long periods of time either. An adjustable desk allows you to easily alternate between sitting and standing.
Access
One of other advantages I found early on was the ability to access cords and my other computer. As mentioned, I use the room as a small control room for my recording studio. In fact, I have two computers, one of which is an old Mac tower. And as with most recording studios, I have cables. Lots of cables. Having a table that adjusts heights allows me to easily access many of the cables underneath or in the back without crawling around a tight space and slamming my head against the bottom of the desktop. It feels like a luxury to be able to simply press a button to access some of the hard-to-reach places.
Projects
Sometimes, just to adjust things, I’ve found that I like to make small, incremental adjustments so that I can see something easier, or that I just simply need a change of pace. Even if I continue sitting, it’s nice to be able to adjust the table, even if only by a couple of inches.
But more than that, I find that if I am assembling something or need the table for another project, I can raise the desk to an optimal level.
Flexispot E7 Premium Standing Table — Additional thoughts
As I mentioned, I assembled the table in the larger living room so I would have more room as well as make a couple of quick videos for this article. Consequently, I chose not to screw the bamboo desktop to the T-frame, realizing that I would just have to disassemble it to get it into the room, then reassemble it again in the tiny space.
To my surprise, the tabletop felt very stable and never slid while I was laying on top of it or anything else. This is because Flexispot has a very wide T-frame with rubber feet that hold the desktop in place. It simply never slides around.
Consequently, I’ve chosen not to attach the desktop since I am going to move relatively soon. I don’t know if it’s advisable, but I can tell you that when the equipment is on the tabletop, I cannot scoot it with any reasonable amount of force. It feels rock solid.
Standing tables and you
Do you use a standing table? Do you feel it’s improved your health? What do you use it for? So far, I am very happy with having this table, both because of the flexibility it offers as well as the excellent build quality. I purchased a Sky Solutions anti-fatigue floor mat with acupressure points and more, and that seems to help as well. But of course, I alternate between sitting and standing.
