Traveling at least two weeks each month, I’ve amassed a library of over 4,500 images on my iPhone 6 Plus. It’s my most-used camera when on the road because it’s small(ish), has fantastic image quality, and is ready to capture in seconds.

Looking for images in the default iOS photos application isn’t very difficult thanks to Collections and Moments, but I organize them differently when I import them into my Lightroom catalog.

All of my photos, both mobile and professional images, live in a Lightroom catalog on my computer in the studio. After getting back from a trip, I do my best to connect my iPhone and import, organize, and keyword the images. This isn’t always a good option when I have back-to-back trips or when I don’t make it to the studio.

For the last few months, I’ve been using Lightroom Mobile to organize my mobile images into collections. Each trip has a new collection, which I can add-to by clicking on the three dots in the lower-right corner.

Auto Add New Photos

During the trip, I’ll launch Lightroom Mobile and create a new collection. I just got back from a recent trip to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico, so the album is named Key West Mobile. Next, I like to toggle on Enable Auto Add in the Collection menu to make this collection the target collection. Now every image I take on my phone during the trip will be added to this collection. I can also add videos to collections with the newest version of Lightroom Mobile.

Note: I make it a point to disable auto add after the trip so every new phone I take isn’t added to the wrong collection.

You can manually add images if you’d prefer. Click on the three dots in the lower-right corner and choose Add from Camera Roll.

Rating your Images

Ill be the first to admitnot every image I take is the best. Just like with my DSLR, I make good use of the burst mode and take several shots in a row to make sure Ive nailed the shot. Too many times Ive been left with a blurry image due to camera shake in low light, so now its just habit to capture several images. With multiple takes of the same image, Ive got to sort through and make my selects. Going through images is quick and easy. Using just one finger, swiping up flags an image as a select.

Switching between flag and star rating systems is simple just press and hold down on the screen and a menu will pop up. Select Speed Flagging for flags, Speed Rating for stars, and Speed Review Combined to see both flags and stars at the same time. Control the flags by swiping on the left side of the screen, and control the stars by swiping on the right side of the screen.

Full of Features

Lightroom Mobile is more than just an app to organize and rate images while on-the-go. We can crop, apply presets, or set custom adjustments to the images with ease.

Under adjustments, you can toggle between basic, tone curve, vignetting, and color/b&w adjustment panels that give you complete creative control over the edit. Simply press and swipe on the adjustment panel to switch panels, or click on the panel icon on the far left side to slide open a navigation menu.

In earlier versions of Lightroom Mobile, you could only access basic adjustments like white balance, exposure, highlights, shadows, clarity, vibrance, and a few others.

Sharing

Once youve made your selects and edited your favorite images, Lightroom Mobile makes it easy to share your images to social media. In the top-right corner, click on the share icon to open the sharing menu. Clicking Share will open a share sheet that will let you send an email, text message, post to Facebook or Twitter, or even add to iCloud Photo Sharing. To go directly into Instagram, click the share icon and choose Open In From here, you can open in different Instagram, or other image viewing and sharing apps.

In the 2015 Release of Creative Cloud, Lightroom Mobile has really improved making it easier to organize, edit and share your images from the devices you use the most. Lightroom Mobile is already included with your Creative Cloud subscription.
