When it comes to street photography, the goal is to capture a slice of life that tells a story in an interesting or humorous manner. However, it’s one way to understand what needs to be done; being able to actually pull it off is a different challenge altogether.
The key to nailing street photos, according to Mike Chudley in the video above, is being present. This makes perfect sense since you’ll need a keen sense of observation when scanning the streets for compositions. Awareness of your surroundings will allow you to pinpoint interesting subjects and scenes to photograph, despite all the distractions around you.
Of course, there are many other skills that allow you to create outstanding street photography. But being present is often the main skill that lets you identify what best to capture and how to approach your composition. As Chudley also noted, it’s your level of awareness that translates into the photos you capture.

What this fellow had to say is philosophy true of life, and as said towards street photography is clearly expressed and I think valuable. But within the realm of photography it is more than street photography. Think of the work of Ansel Adams.
