As 2023 progresses, Capture One has been on a roll with its new releases and features. With more exciting tools on the way, photographers can expect even easier collaboration and the creation of amazing images. Let’s take a look at what Capture One has been up to lately and give you a sneak peek at what’s coming soon.
Integration of artificial intelligence (AI)
One of the most talked-about features coming from Capture One is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their editing software. While AI may cause some concern for creatives, Capture One Pro believes that it can give photographers more control and time to focus on the aspects that matter the most.
The AI-powered feature promises to make the editing process more efficient by predicting and applying the most suitable adjustments to images. The software will analyze an image and recommend adjustments based on its unique characteristics, including exposure, contrast and color balance. Photographers can choose to accept these recommendations, make their own adjustments or a combination of both. Smart Adjustments can normalize white balance and exposure over a group of images from a single reference image.
This new feature is a significant step in speeding up the editing process while also making it more efficient. It saves photographers valuable time, using AI to remove laborious and tedious tasks. allowing them to focus on other essential aspects of their work, such as marketing or client communication.
One of the new features I had a sneak peek at is the Dust Removal tool. It looks amazing for removing those pesky sensor dust spots. The other is Face Focus (on import and cull) with a zoom window to check sharpness and focus, even on multiple faces. You can choose the zoom level, limit to face or eye, and exclude blinking and certain facial expressions.
Custom Shortcuts have been added as well to make your own custom keyboard shortcuts for adding style, or Edit with Photoshop functions.
Wireless Tethering
Again not new, but apparently improvements have been made to significantly speed up the wireless tether process for Canon, Nikon and Sony users, with the addition of Fujifilm coming soon too. Tethering to the new iPad feature (wirelessly) means no more lugging a computer around. You can shoot quickly and easily on location.
Capture One for iPhone
Coming soon, is Capture One for iPhone, giving the same look and feel as Capture One Pro.
Improved collaboration for photographers
Capture One is also making it easier for photographers to collaborate with others. The platform has added an option to share collections with other users, allowing for seamless communication between team members, clients and other creatives. This feature is handy for photographers working on large projects or with teams in different locations. While Live or Share Online isn’t new, the Capture One iPad app means you no longer need to carry a computer with you. You can share and tether on the go.
With this feature, photographers can easily share their edits and receive feedback in real time, streamlining the entire workflow process. Additionally, users can also add notes and comments to individual images, further facilitating communication and collaboration.
