I’ve been on a little bit of a still-life deep dive lately, all thanks to the Hobolite Mini. It’s such a cool and versatile little light and it’s just perfect for small-ish still-life setups. I recently had these yummy strawberry tarts and fresh strawberries in the studio recently and I thought I would share how I got the photos for this series.
Staging the scene
I used a white backdrop and placed a small coffee cup, saucer and spoon on a timber trivet, with some red flowers (to match the strawberries) in a white ceramic vase. I also did some shots without the coffee cup and just five of the tarts. Finally, I placed the Hobolite mini on the right and a silver reflector on the left.
Capturing the scene
I had the Hobolite Mini at 100% on 5600K. I used my Sony A7RV with the Tamron 28-75mm lens. Took some overall images and then I zoomed in and captured some of the details. I also took a big bite of one of the tarts (it was yummy) and shot that as well. I was shooting on AP mode, my camera on a tripod, shooting between f/2.8 and f/4.5 and my shutter was about 1/15secs (hence the tripod). ISO100. That’s it.
