When you move to the latest camera gear many times you need to sell the old. That can be a real PIA. Advertising, answering questions and taking time to deal with collecting money along with packing and shipping. Worst of all dealing with possible scammers. I’m now doing it the easy way. MPB.com

Above you can see my EM-1 Mark III in earlier days before it came time to sell as I’ve upgraded to the OM-1 Camera System.

The inquiry

It all starts with getting a quote from MPB.

Clean your gear. Rate it according to the charts. You have five choices. Like new, Excellent, Good, Well used and Heavily used. Call up the MPB website, list your gear and rate it. You’ll receive a quote almost instantly. If you think the quote is fair move on to the next step. Note: I’ve found as long as you rate your gear properly the quote is what you are paid.

Send your gear

This is easy. Pack up your gear and tell MPB how many boxes you have. They will send you FedEx shipping labels for which they pay. Print and attach the label(s) and drop off or call FedEx for your pick up. Your gear is on its way.

Gear is here. They check it over. Inform you in two business days.

Wait for the official word

You’ll receive notification when your shipment is received by MPB. Their communication keeps you informed every step of the way. They test and confirm your rating. Two business days later you get word if their examination of your equipment agrees with your rating or not. If they offer you less you have the option of declining. (haven’t had that happen, personally) If that’s the case, the equipment will be shipped back to you at their expense. If accepted, share your banking info and the money will be transferred to you electronically in a couple days.

Ready to pay or you can apply the money to used gear from MPB if you wish.

Final thoughts

Could I make a few more dollars selling on the open market? Probably. But, I’ve found my time and piece of mind has a great value. This process has been so clean for me anytime I have sold gear through MPB.com that as long as I am comfortable with the offer, this is the way for me to turn over my used gear, unless I have a friend or person I KNOW willing to purchase.
