This week, we want to know what your first brand of camera was. Whether you’re a new photographer or a veteran, it’s always fun to look back on how we got started. Vote below and tell us the story of how you got started in the comments!
I was working in London, 1975 or 6 and a colleague was from Hong Kong and visited there regularly. After a trip there he came back with an Olympus OM1, black body and 50mm 1.4f lens. Was I interested in buying it? I knew nothing about cameras or photography but this was such a lovely thing to hold and look at that I fad to have it, and, for a change. I actually had a bit of money then, so I bought it. I have never looked back, and I;ve always bought Olympus since!
The first camera I ever used was (I think) a Brownie, I was under 7 so that would have been pre 1967. Then there was the Kodak cameras as I progressed into something a little more modern. In 1976 I took all my earnings from that summer as a camp counselor and bought a fancy Pentax K1000 which I used until I switched over to digital in 2008. Great memories from those earlier days, I had such fun and enjoyed the world of photography so much that it progressed into a passion and a career for me.
Technically, mine was the Fisher Price camera when I was 6.
