I’ll be in the area of Livonia, Michigan this week for Scott Kelby’s seminar happening Wednesday, so I’d like to take some time and make some photographs while I’m in the area, and I’d be so happy if you’d join me. Let’s go to the character-rich town area of Farmington and have some fun on Grand River Avenue. We have a photo shoot Tuesday night.

This is a hands-on shooting time when you can practice various techniques, like dragging the shutter, long exposures, and light placement for the most flattering portraits. All skill levels are welcome!

Here are some pictures I’ve made during recent photowalks.

We’re really pleased to team up with Perfectly Clear for this event. This is a free event, and we’ve got several raffle prizes, including a license to Perfectly Clear, and a complimentary ticket to Scott Kelby’s Shoot Like a Pro Reloaded tour on Wednesday (here’s an interview with Scott detailing some of the things you’ll learn there)

This is a hands-on shooting time: bring your camera and speedlight/flash if you’ve got them, as well as triggers you use (or would like to start using). I’ll be using a tripod and my Platypod Pro, plus a light stand or two. I’ll be using Perfectly Clear with Lightroom and Photoshop to finish my pictures, later, and I encourage you to download the free trial and give it a shot and see how it can make a big impact on your work (they’re our sponsor, after all).

I Need Your Help!

I’d like to practice some fun portrait techniques with you during this walk…so we need some portrait subjects! I don’t want professional models, because that’s not good practice for my/our usual work. I’d love to have you bring your friend for us to photograph, or your kids, or that guy you know who you think would be willing. Anybody! We’ll make some fun pictures and share with the subjects.

What to Bring

Bring your camera with fresh batteries and memory cards. I’ll be using speedlights, and expect to focus on people portraits with cityscape and architecture. Bring your speedlight or flash (and batteries) and I’ll help you make the most of it. Bring a jacket–the weather forecast looks great, but it will be evening. Remember to bring a fun attitude, too :D
