Looking for a fun photography project you can try at home? Why not make your a DIY lightbox? It doesn’t require very much, and you may already have most of what is required at home. Using a macro lens and a slice of orange (fresh and dried), I captured some incredible detail images with the light from below making the fruit translucent and glow.
The DIY lightbox setup
- A sheet of white opaque acrylic (Perspex); mine is approximately 900mm x 600mm
- A couple of chairs or low stools
- Citrus sliced, I used fresh and dried (you could use pretty much any fruit or object that is translucent)
- Water and paper towel for cleanup
Camera gear and settings
- Godox AD200 Pro speedlight (1/16 power), with diffusion dome
- Godox trigger X1
- Sony a7R V: ISO200, f/6.3, 1/160secs
- Sony 90mm macro lens
