Now that we’re officially in spooky season, we’re sure many of you are ready with your Halloween photo shoots, if you haven’t done so already. But in case you still need some last-minute ideas, we think today’s Halloween lighting tips will come in handy!

In the oldie but goody Adorama video above, Gavin Hoey walks us through his Halloween lighting setup and techniques, which will work perfectly for small spaces. So, if you’re planning to do a shoot in your dedicated or makeshift home studio, this should be perfect for you.

To create a moody and creepy atmosphere for his shoot, Hoey casted some dramatic shadows over his model using hard light sources. Using a speedlight and a larger Flashpoint XPLOR400 flash fitted with a honeycomb grid, he was able to accurately control the light. This way, he illuminated both his model and the scene just right. Also, he added a nice, spooky vibe by simply adding color gels to his light sources.

How are you getting creative with your Halloween lighting this year? Why not share it with us in the comments below, or in our group discussions if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
