Perspective distortion, for example, happens when you get too close to your subject and shoot with a wide-angle lens. Lighting your subject evenly is another issue, as wrong light placement can cause unflattering shadows on your subject.
To fix these problems, Hoey gives a bunch of key solutions. Shoot from the waist level and keep it level. Mind your flash placement; don’t put it too close to your subject.
