The new Photoshop CC just dropped. I’ve had a chance to review the new features and wanted to post about the ones that should matter most to photographers

UPDATE: A 14.1.1 Update just shipped to address bugs in 14.1

Camera Shake Reduction Improvements

The user interface has been tweaked a bit to give productivity gains. You’ll find a checkbox to disable artifact suppression (this can speed things up). Even more useful, the Dock detail can be detached, zoomed, and repositioned for interactive previews. The whole thing also runs faster and creates intelligent previews in the background. If you’re working on a retina display, you’ll also find support for HiDPI displays and improved performance on large screens.

For more information, see Reduce camera shake blurring.

Improved Select Color Range Command

The select color range command has been dramatically improved. When you choose Select > Color Range you’ll find improved options. Click the Select menu and choose Shadows, Midtones, or Highlights. You’ll find great new controls to refine the fuzziness and the range of the selection.

Photo-Oriented Performance Improvements

  • Increased stability while saving files to network locations
  • Photoshop-Behance integration is now available for several languages. Post your images using several photo oriented portfolios with ProSite.
  • Native read-only PSDX file format support. This makes it easier to use files created on your tablet or phone with Photoshop Touch.
  • Improved performance and stability while using content-aware features
  • Improved GPU detection. Photoshop is less likely to crash when using your GPU. You’ll also see fewer crashes as unsupported GPUs will be disabled.

Adobe Generator

This feature is aimed at web people, but has a lot of cool features that should soon make it into my web delivery workflow for photos too. Our friend Terry White has a great video that explains how it works.

32-bit Support for 24 Filters

A bunch of filters now work in 32-bits per channel mode. This is great for those wanting to modify HDR images as well as those working with advanced formats like 3D.
