Are you looking for macro photography without the cost of a macro lens? Why not try extension tubes a go? These are fantastic to take on holidays as they will work with any lens. I recently captured some beautiful orchids in a greenhouse with my Tamron 28-75mm and 70-300mm and my 16mm Vello Extension tubes.
It truly is a terrific addition to your travel kit, especially when trying to conserve weight. While not necessarily as good as a true dedicated macro lens, it is a viable alternative. Especially if you are just starting out.
Not 100% sure exactly what Extension tubes are? Check out this article.
