Most of today’s photographers have adapted to a fully-digital workflow in response to the current industry demands. However, there are still a handful who find the printed form as the pinnacle of their work. Many film photographers, for example, continue the with the art of silver gelatin prints. Some even enlist the expertise of a master printer to bring out the best version of their work.

In the short film above, ILFORD Photo takes us to the world of New York’s master printers, who they consider to be the film photographer’s key collaborator. “They bring to life stunning moments in time by manipulating light and dark while exercising passion in pursuit of perfection,” their video description goes.

Whether you still shoot film or otherwise, this ILFORD Inspires does what it says on the tab — it inspires you to either appreciate the art of darkroom printing, or get into the craft yourself. By collaborating with a master printer, the world’s iconic photographers were able to realize their creative vision. There’s no reason for today’s photographers to give it a try as well!
