Looking for something new to try to give your photography a boost? Or maybe you want to expand your skills with a new technique? How about learning some slow shutter tricks that you can use for your next projects? Let’s take a look at five that you can start learning and practicing right away!
In the video above, Sydney-based photographer Tim Northey gives a rundown of the slow shutter techniques that you can do to elevate your photography. He couldn’t have been in a better location — Tokyo — to demonstrate these tricks and what you can do with them. From handholding slow shutter shots, to using tripods and creating light trails, his quick guide has something for everyone.
Also, the video shows that these slow shutter tricks are best done during nighttime out in the streets. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try some of them indoors or in your own backyard and get creative with lighting. For example, you can try light painting with a small torch or flashlight, just like our very own Ken Lee does with a professional handheld light or cheap but high-quality flashlights.
