When I first opened this kit up I thought it was extremely cheap. But, after assembling and seeing the quality of light I was impressed at what you get for the price. As a starter light kit for enthusiasts, novices and semi-pros, you can’t beat the price. I’d also suggest this is a quite inexpensive way to light for vlogging in the studio. More below.

Raleno LED Softbox PS 70 — Light and control

This is a pretty simple set up. There’s an almost ten foot cord with an inline on off switch. The three meter cord gives you a fairly large area with which to move and adjust your lights. Bulbs have a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 97. A high CRI gives you clean color with no green or magenta shifts.

Easy to assemble soft box with diffusion.

Raleno LED Softbox PS 70 — Light modifiers, etc.

The modifiers that come with the PS 70 create a nice soft pattern of light. A simple push opens the soft box to shooting position. Beveled aluminum bumps intensify, spread and smooth the light. Diffuser panels keep the lights from being too specular. Panels are easily installed when the light is deployed to shooting position. Note that when you first set up the soft box diffuser, don’t think as I did, that the velcro is on the wrong side. I missed turning it in.

Carry case bag.

Raleno LED Softbox PS 70 — Who is this for?

At $69.99 any new photographer on a budget can get some great use out of this kit. Pros who are doing a bit of video on the side and don’t mind set/up breakdown time or are going to set up an in studio interview corner. In addition, I’d also recommend this for video bloggers who need some nice light at a low cost.

The image that headlines this article was lit with a single Raleno soft box offset from the camera right. The light pattern added depth and dimension to the subject. The background was a black seamless paper with blue LED lights.
