Unfortunately it looks like my hands-on iPhone review is going to have to wait.
Despite ordering a phone at 12:01 am PT on day of release (confirmed at 12:02 am) AT&T is now saying 45-60 days to ship.
They of course took 2 days to provide said shipping estimate.
After confirming with three levels of management, AT&T has apparently botched the order quantities so badly that they will take about 2 months to fill any orders.
So if you want the phone, apparently AT&T is not the place. My delay was going to be two months. New orders are even longer.
Thanks for the info. I’m eligible for an upgrade in two days, and will order it directly from Apple instead.
I was going to purchase the Plus version from Apple and was informed shipping would be 2-3 weeks. I then ordered from ATT as I have done in the past. I got the same shipping info – 28-30 days. We will see! BTW, I ordered the Plus with Space Grey with 64 gigs. I don’t know if the model differences play into this – I suspect it does.

Terrifies me to think what mine is from T-Mobile. I spent 16 hours via web, visits to stores, and multiple calls to the sales line before I could finally get an order to go through….
It was about 12:20 AM PDT when I went to the Apple site, which wasn’t yet up (very frustrating). I went to the Verizon site, ordered without any problem, and went back to bed (I am in EDT timezone so it was 3:30 am when I went back to bed). Today I received my FedEx tracking number from Verizon and the FedEx website says I’ll have it Thursday.
Just tell them you’re a pro…oh wait, that approach didn’t work with your MacBook Pro battery either.

It would appear that the time the online store actually opened may have had some effect on this as well. based on conversations I’ve had with a number of people, AT&T accidentally made the phones available 15 minutes before they were supposed to. I’ve talked to a couple of people who just happened to be on AT&T’s site at 1:45AM CDT and were able to go through the process and order their phones without incident with deliveries still showing 9/19. I ordered the iphone 6, admittedly not plus, at 3am eastern on the 12th. When I got my confirmation later that day, my shipping date was quoted as sometime between the Sept 23rd and Oct 2nd! I was pretty irked but it has since been adjusted to shipping on the Sept 17th. I realize the plus is a different animal but at least with the 6, Att seems to be performing as expected for me. At least, I hope so, I guess we will find out on the 17th whether it actually ships.
I couldn’t even get through to AT&T online so called Apple directly on Sept. 15, the day I was eligible for an upgrade price, and was promised an ARRIVAL date (for the 6 in gold) between Sept. 30-Oct. 7. He told me if I picked it up at an Apple store (which I have nearby) it would be even sooner.
Ordered mine on the 19th and got a shipping notice today from AT&T so stay patient.
Nope I verified that they screwed up… my order was indeed going to take that long.
