Photographers always seem to have a fascination with what other photographers have in their kit. Cameras, lenses, filters, bags and all the paraphernalia that goes along with it. So what’s in my bag, when I leave the studio?
My go-to travel bag
When I travel I tend to carry a variety of lenses with me, depending on where I am going.
- Sony a7RIII
- Sony 16-35mm wide-angle
- Sony 90mm Macro
- Tamron 28-75mm (my workhorse)
- Pro-Master Travel Tripod
- MEIKE MK-320S Mini TTL
- ND Filters and filter attachment
- Remote trigger for long exposures — similar to this Vello one
Other things in my bag are spare batteries, a rain poncho, a small hand towel, a lens cleaning kit, and business cards (you never know who you might run into). I have a range of bags, all getting pretty old. But they need to be lightweight and comfortable. I prefer the backpack type myself. Waterproof and has room for everything without being too heavy. My favorite is this old Lowepro sports bag, I think this is similar to mine that is available today.
I also frequently have my second camera (also a Sony a7RIII) on a Black Rapid Metro sling strap.
So, that’s what’s in my bag. What about yours? Share it with us in the comments below!
Clambering around the Scottish landscape, the contents of the bag have to be light! (The bag generally gets hidden somewhere nearby, with all the spare bits and pieces.) Spare battery, cleaning cloth plus memory card is in the pocket.
A light weight bag is ALWAYS my goal too Norma, sadly the reality is not always the case lol
I manage to keep total weight under ten pounds with u4/3 gear. FOV lens coverage is equivalent to full-frame 16mm – 300mm:
OM System Micro Four Thirds daytime – lightweight
Olympus OM-1 20MP u4/3 1.13 lbs
Leica DG Vario 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH 0.69 lbs
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH POWER OIS 0.46 lbs
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 45-150mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S 0.44 lbs
GT1545T tripod 2.34 lbs
RRS BH-30 LR ballhead 0.70 lbs
Mindshift 13 backpack 2.65 lbs
Total weight 8.41 lbs
Thanks Mark, yes the Olympus is small, compact and light weight, great for travelling
Of course it depends on what I have to do, for sport I generally have two bodies, a Z9 and a Z7II nikon with three lenses, a 150-600, a 70-200 and a 24-70, battery and memory cards, the wifi system for remote shooting, (in football puts a camera behind the door with fixed focus and remote control) a manfrotto monopod, Gorilla pod, cleaning kit, a waterproof kit for cameras, a raincoat for me, in case of heavy rain also a large umbrella attached to the monopod, and the laptop for send photos to agencies. The photo backpack is a lowepro… Read more »
