Are you up for another photography challenge? Here’s one that you can tackle in the next few days to put your photography skills to the test and refill your creative juices! For the 31st week of their 52-week Photo Challenge, the folks of SlickPic want us to make creative use of dramatic Backlit Scenes.
In this challenge, the task is to capture subjects with light coming from behind them to create dramatic silhouettes, halos, glow and contrasts. With this technique, you’re encouraged to add depth, dimension, or mystery to your photos. To ensure the best results, adjust your exposure to balance the light and dark parts of your photo, and experiment with different angles and perspectives. Try shooting in both color and black and white, and use this technique for different photography genres.
To help inspire you with some tips and ideas, we suggest checking out our quick guide on backlighting, as well as some useful tips from Michael Frye. In case you’re just joining, we also encourage you to check out the full info on the 52-week Challenge.
