Ever been curious about the rare and legendary Leica Noctilux 50mm f/1.2 but find the price point too steep? Ted Forbes of The Art of Photography shares his insights on the Light Lens Lab 50mm f/1.2 ASPH “1966” which he found to be a faithful recreation of the original legendary optics for a fraction of the price.
In the video above, Forbes first explains what made the original Leica Noctilux 50mm f/1.2 a coveted lens and a legendary piece of photography history. However, all of that comes with a hefty price tag of $30,000 to $50,000 on the used market.
Then, he introduces us to the Light Lens Lab recreation, which is a faithful replica down to the hand-ground Lanthanum glass elements. Of course, his findings wouldn’t be complete without some sample photos and side-by-side comparison with Leica’s heritage production of the original.
So, what do you think of the Leica Noctilux replica? Is it something you’d like to add to your lens collection? Share your insights with us in the comments below, or in our group discussion if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
