Many photographers will tell you that the topic of the best camera is a subjective one. It’s more important to see it as a tool for creating photos that reflect creative vision and resonate with as many viewers as possible. Still, curiosity about the most popular models is also understandable. This is especially the case for those who are deciding on their next gear purchase. Finding out which cameras were used to take well-liked or inspiring photos is one way to look into it.

This is exactly what electronics enthusiast website ElectronicsHub did. In a recent post, they shared how they analyzed the most popular camera brands and models based on the most “faves” received on Flickr. They gathered data from 1,161,339 photos on the platform tagged “architecture,” “portrait,” “landscape,” “fashion,” “wildlife” and “food.” Next, they calculated the average “favorites” garnered per photo for each camera brand and model (including smartphone cameras), and for each tag. Finally, they referred to the results to rank the “most loved.”

Here are their key findings:

  • The camera brand that produces the most loved photos is Olympus, with snaps from this make earning an average of 26.6 faves on Flickr.
  • The camera model that harvests the most faves on Flickr is the Canon EOS M6 Mark II, averaging 138.9 faves.
  • The phone camera that produces the most loved photos is the Apple iPhone 13 Pro, averaging 29.8 faves on Flickr.
  • The camera model that produces the most loved photos for any particular type is the Fujifilm X30, which wins an average of 438.1 faves for photos of architecture.

So, what do you think of the results? Did they surprise you? Share your thoughts in the comments below, or in our group discussion if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
