A few weeks ago during Adobe Max 2018 some major updates were announced for the Adobe CC plans. While all of them were pretty exciting and amazing, (in theory), photographers were left pretty confused. The big question most of us had, was "What's up with this CC vs Classic thing for Lightroom?" and the more important one, "Should I upgrade/replace my currently Lightroom with the updated "Classic" and CC versions?" When you go to install the Lightroom Classic update, your existing Lightroom catalog is going to go through a significant upgrade process. This process WILL take longer (even a lot longer) than you are used to. This is because Adobe is compressing the Develop History and Metadata values in lrcat. This is expected to improve the overall responsiveness of Lightroom Classic CC. But it does take some time — Don't Panic. What is a Catalog? I just wrapped up installing a Seagate 2TB FireCuda gaming hard drive into a 2012 27" iMac, and boy is it worth it! The reason I chose this specific hard drive is due to the technology that this drive uses. Seagate, back in 2010, launched one of my favorite affordable upgrades for laptops-- a hard drive line called Momentus XT. This hard drive differs from the usual hard drives by combining the then new technology of solid state storage with the larger, more spacious, traditional platter hard drives. This combination drastically improved … [Read more...] about Do it! Put a Seagate FireCuda in your 27″ iMac!

When theres a shiny new program on the market, its often easy to install it right away and start using it. I am a full-time photographer and camera gear is very important to me. I obviously need a camera, lens, and a few other accessories to successfully take a photo, but sometimes with all the hype of new equipment being announced every other week we tend to forget that it's not the gear that makes the photograph - it's the photographer. The only DSLR I own is a Nikon D200, and in my opinion it is a great camera for the type of work I do, which is mostly portrait & stock photography. Not that I won't ever upgrade, or don't want to upgrade, but … [Read more...] about No Upgrade – No Problem
