Comments

Photofocus does not allow blog comments. We simply don’t have time to moderate them. We have to choose between creating content and moderating comments. We’re taking a page from Seth Godin. Having tried comments for more than a year at TWIPPHOTO, we think they’re more trouble than they’re worth.

We dealt with constant comment spam, as well as people who simply wanted to use our site to promote their own content. We also struggled with getting people to follow our comment policy. The comments at TWIPPHOTO were often full of mis-leading or incorrect information. Shills would come to the site to badmouth their competition when we published reviews. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Comments are the key attraction for some blogs and some bloggers. Not here. We believe the photography teaching we offer stands on its own.

When people are allowed to leave comments, we feel compelled to clarify or to answer every objection or to point out every flaw in reasoning. This is often a waste of time, since the people commenting are sometimes not interested in sincere dialogue, but rather, causing trouble. Second, it takes way too much of our time to even think about comments, never mind curate them. And finally, and most importantly for you, it permanently changes the way we write. Instead of writing for everyone, we find ourselves writing in anticipation of the pedantic commenters.

We’re not trying to stifle your opinion. You’re free to say what you want about us any number of places. We just don’t have time to deal with it here, nor will we spend any time dealing with it anywhere else. It’s not because we don’t care what you think, it’s because we don’t have time to react to each comment. Our focus is on sharing great photography-related content, not debating people over why we use this font or that on our blog.

We do provide an opportunity for you to give us your feedback or to ask sincere questions about photography. Simply send us e-mail to:

photofocus@me.com

If we make an error, find a comment that enhances our post, get a question we want to answer, or get information we otherwise find useful, we’ll either update the post in question or create a new post to add in the new information.

You can also follow this site’s publisher on Twitter – http://www.twitter.com/scottbourne where you can post your comments and questions.

We realize that some people will not enjoy this policy and accordingly, we apologize for any inconvenience.
