With the Fujifilm X100VI all the rage yet out of reach lately, it’s not surprising that many street photographers resort to looking for the next best thing. There are some obvious choices for every budget. But UK-based professional photographer and videographer Tom Carlton noticed that there’s one camera that that nobody seems to talk about: The classic Pentax MX-1.

The 10-year-old, retro-styled enthusiast point-and-shoot camera, he said, comes with an impressive range of features that make it a great choice for street photography. For starters, it has a lightweight and compact form, great handling, and a 3-inch flip out screen, and a budget-friendly price. The image quality isn’t that bad at all for a decade-old model, and the issue Carlton encountered also added a retro-look to the photos. But most interesting is the brassing of the camera body over time, which is definitely aimed at vintage camera enthusiasts.

Carlton went on to the rest of the reasons why he thinks more street photographers should be at least considering this compact shooter. Do you agree with all the points he mentioned in the video above? Or do you have your own recommendation/s for a street photography camera that won’t break the bank? Let us know in the comments below!
