I have to say, the online world is moving pretty quickly. I just signed up for a way to share my contact info with you in one fell swoop using a Dot or a QR code.
Dot.cards
I know there are a few services such as this for sharing contact information almost immediately. Dot Cards is the one I choose. For 20 bucks you can get a hot Dot you can stick to your phone to share information. What’s a hot Dot? It’s a circle you stick on the back of your phone. It uses Bluetooth technology to open up a browser with a link to load all your contact information into the contacts section of a phone that it connects with. Touch the other phone’s hot spot to begin the process.
Dot also creates a QR code for you that can be shared as well if you have trouble with your Bluetooth. It looks like the one below. Scan it with your phone if you would like to instantly access my commercial, art and photographer websites. Oh, and my email and phone number as well. You can choose how much or how little, information you load into your Dot Card, or set up multiple cards for an additional charge. You can even make this company-wide if you have multiple employees.
The setup window
Here is the interface for adding or removing, information to your Dot Card. You can choose a different color palette should you so choose. Even being somewhat non-tech savvy, it took me very little time to get this set up and activated. Make sure you follow the directions for placement of your Dot. If you put your Dot in the wrong spot, you can be pinging your own phone for a long time.
A new world
It may be old news to some of you but it’s a new world to me. It’s possible that tech such as this will be the death knell of the printed business card. I know won’t be printing any cards anytime soon. The idea of being able to change the info I share without having to get a new stock of cards is interesting.
I think I like it.

The thing about a printed card is, it’s an object. And if it looks nice people may keep it around and run across it in the future. Sure I could put your info on my phone – but unless I remember you for some reason, I ‘ll never look at it.
Jim,
Good thoughts! The problem I’ve seen with cards is that they often get thrown away… Might be in conjunction with the two? It’s always a learning process! Yours in Creative Photography, Bob
Interesting idea Bob, thanks for sharing
Absolutely Julie, The other important part is the ability to change things immediately. Can’t tell you how many cards I have had to throw away over the years because the info came out of date. Yours in Creative Photography, Bob
