In case you missed it, Skylum Software has recently announced that Focus Stacking will be coming to Luminar Neo, their AI-based all-in-one editing tool. It is an add-on extension and will be available in November. In this video, we take a closer look at this new feature in action in Luminar Neo, and see just how well it works.

If you aren’t familiar with focus stacking, it is essentially the merging of multiple images into one (stacking them). Each image is taken with a different focal point so as to achieve maximum depth of field throughout the entire image.

Macro focus stacking

This technique is useful on macro images as well as landscapes, where it can be difficult to get the entire image in focus, front to back. By taking different images with different focal points, each image has maximum focus. Then, by stacking them, the combined image is in perfect focus throughout.
