When creating DVD sideshows of your photos, it’s important to remember that the size of your image will likely not match the constraints of a television screen. The DVD format supports very specific frame sizes, so images will end up with padded pixels around the edges (usually black). This padding is typically called letter-boxing (if its at top and bottom) or pillar-boxing (on the left and right sides).
1. Organize your images Ideally, all of your images for a slideshow will be in one folder. You can use additional subfolders if needed.
2. Automate the process Photoshop includes specific actions to speed up common video tasks. Choose Window > Actions to view the Actions panel. Click the small triangle in the panel’s upper-right corner and choose Video Actions from the menu that appears.
3. Set up the conversion Another automation tool in Photoshop is the Image Processor script. This script allows you to quickly convert a group of files to the right format. Choose File > Scripts > Image Processor…
4. Choose your images In the Image Processor window, click the Select Folder button. Navigate to your selected images and open the initial folder and click Open. If using additional nested folders, check the Include All sub-folders box.
5. Pick a destination You can either choose to store the images in the same location or select a new folder.
6. Pick a format Choose a file format for the new files. Both PSD and TIFF files work well for Adobe Encore.
7. Use an action To automate the process, check the Run Action box. Choose Video Actions from the Actions pop-up menu. Choose one of the DVD Slideshow actions based upon your needs for DVD format.
8. Make it happen Click the Run button to process the images. When finished, the images are ready to import into Adobe Encore.
