The Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) conference revealed some exciting new workflow options for photographers. These are going to make life a whole lot easier.

I’ve recently upgraded my (12-year-old) full-frame DSLR to a mirrorless. My new camera has simple wireless transfer (the kind that’s been around for a while). Even with this, I can attest to how game-changing it is. Let’s take a look at what’s coming in cloud tech with frame.io integrations that allow real-time upload, edit and delivery.

Radiant Photo Cloud was unveiled at WPPI for a test run, showcasing new frame.io integration. Frame.io is a cloud-based collaboration platform. It allows apps and devices to send photos to the cloud in real-time. At WPPI, Fujifilm, SmugMug and Radiant Photo all revealed how their frame.io integration will make it possible for wedding, event and portrait photographers to create print-ready, sellable files in real-time.

A new frame.io workflow for photographers, starting in-camera

Fujifilm presented two of its latest model cameras at WPPI: The large format GFX 100 II and the newly released X100VI. Both of these cameras come with Camera to Cloud frame.io technology built in. What does this mean? It means that photographers can have photos ready to publish in an extremely short timeframe.

The frame.io integrating on these cameras pushes photos to the cloud in real-time as you shoot. Either RAW or JPG files can be sent and it can be automatic, or selective. This means you can choose the photos to send, or have all photos upload automatically. At WPPI photographers gave these models a workout, seeing this integration working in a real world situation.

The next step: Editing photos once uploaded

Radiant Photo Cloud, unveiled at WPPI, becomes the next step in this workflow. As frame.io photos arrived, Radiant Cloud detected the new upload. Using the Smart Editing automation we know and love in Radiant Photo, the software color-corrected and perfectly exposed each photo before returning it to the server.

Radiant Cloud has a custom-tuned algorithm designed to accommodate a range of shooting conditions. That means that edits can be done automatically. As the photographer you can focus on the moments, and know that your images are color and exposure balanced as they are delivered. Check out the galleries here for what this looks like in practice.

The final ingredient: Delivery, display and sale, in real-time, with SmugMug integration

Finally, as the last ingredient to this workflow, at WPPI SmugMug showcased it’s frame.io integration. This pulls over new photos being uploaded, auto-populates a gallery, and is immediately available for sale or download.

This means you can shoot an event. Upload the photos from your Fujifilm format GFX 100 II or X100VI camera. Have Radiant Cloud automatically process them. And finally, ship photos on to SmugMug, ready for clients to purchase or download. All this in real time while still working the event. This will be a gamechanger for photographers who work in weddings, events and portrait photography.

Testing frame.io integration for Radiant Photo Cloud, SmugMug and Fujifilm’s latest cameras

This workflow was put into practice at WPPI and you can see some of the photo galleries created. These galleries show the process between SmugMug and Fujifilm’s cameras via frame.io. These show a comparison between the photos processed with Radiant Photo compared to the RAW from the camera.

With SmugMug delivery and Radiant Photo Cloud making sure your images look stunning, this will make in-event photo sales and delivery easier than ever.

When is frame.io integration for Radiant Photo Cloud coming?

We’ve got no launch date for Radiant Photo Cloud yet. However, the newest release has got Portrait tools and Color Style tools that will keep you going. Get started practicing this workflow if you own a Fujifilm GFX 100 II or nab the newly released X100VI (if you can!). SmugMug is offering a 30% discount at the moment on your first year.

I’m excited to see what avenues for extra revenue the frame.io integration for Radiant Photo brings for photographers. Being able to rely on your photos being color and exposure corrected as part of an automated workflow like this is going to make a big difference for wedding and event photographers wanting to offer something extra to clients that no one has done before.
