One of the most poignant ways that photography enriches our lives is through documentation. Through photography’s innate power of visual storytelling, we can capture slices of life and immortalize moments frozen in time. So, if you need ideas for your next photography project, you may want to start documenting your every day, if you haven’t yet.

In the video above, photographer, filmmaker, and YouTuber Gene Yoon talks about why documenting his daily life is important to him, and how he’s been doing it in the past few years. Photography, particularly film photography, takes a big chunk of it, but he also likes supplementing it with iPhone videos. Many of his favorite snaps also end up as prints, which add a tangible and tactile component to his documentation.

Apart from documenting the common and the everyday yourself, Gene also recommends letting others document their time with you. For him, letting his daughters do this bit allows him to get a different but still interesting perspective.

So, how are you using photography to document both the best and the ordinary in your daily life? Share it with us in the comments below, or in our group discussion if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
