How wide can your lenses go? Paris-based weird lens enthusiast Mathieu Stern recently embarked on an ultra-wide angle adventure with a 9mm lens. In a nutshell, he had fun with it, but we’ll let you be the judge after watching the video above!

Stern picked up the Brightin Star 9mm f/5.6 lens and put it through its paces. He also gave a rundown of features and characteristics that make this ultra-wide angle lens interesting. Primarily, it provides an ultra-wide angle field of view without the barrel distortion of a fisheye lens. This makes it perfect for capturing very wide scenes with straighter lines and without major distortions.

To satisfy our curiosity, Stern used the lens on a variety of subjects and locations to showcase its performance. As such, we can see that it works great for capturing sweeping scenes like landscapes and architecture without major distortion. “A lens this wide is a lot of fun. It gave me a new vision of the world around me,” he added.

He also gave a quick tip for shooting with this lens: go monochrome. Shooting in black and white, he noted, helps focus on composition, texture, contrast and the interplay of light and shadow.
