Interesting that you were so impressed with the Fuji X70, Marco. DPReview compared this quite unfavourably to the Ricoh GR. Have you tried using the Ricoh?
Hi Rob, I had a few hours with the Ricoh GR about a half year ago. It is a nice and (even a bit more) compact camera. But the usability and control dial layout was not in a way that feels most natural to me and my style of working. I come from the basic analog Leica M approach and like to be able to quickly control my camera’s main functions via dedicated external dials. In addition to that I find the 180° tilt LCD on the X70 to be a huge asset for candid street, documentary and also architecture… Read more »
Thanks for the very comprehensive reply, Marco. I was tempted by the X70 as a “carry everywhere” supplement to my X-E2,but had been deterred by DPReview and other comments from people who were unimpressed with the lens. I have been asking Fuji for a tilt LCD and weather sealing (amongst other things) on the X100 line for a long time. And looking at the decision process and reasoning against a tilt LCD on… Read more »
Larousse,
The Sony A6000 with a good 35 mm F1.4 lens is a better camera and you can get it for less money.
Nemo, every photographer has different demands and favors different features on a camera. So “better” is always very relative. I’m speaking here from my experience and I realize that other photographers may prefer different cameras in a certain prize range.
Just as an example I have not been a fan of the usability in terms of menus and buttons on the Sony mirrorless cameras.
But thank you for sharing your opinion with us.
