I’m finally making it back out to New York City for the first time since 2011, and I couldn’t be more excited. I hope you’ll join me as we explore some of the best spots New York City has to offer!

Join Me for a Free Photofocus Photowalk!

In collaboration with the Out of New York Conference, I’m hosting a free Photofocus Photowalk! We’ll start by meeting at Chelsea Market and work our way through the Meatpacking District, West Village and Soho before ending in Little Italy.

Our focus will be on the nightlife atmosphere, working on nighttime portraiture, street photography and cityscapes. You’ll be able to practice with various techniques throughout the evening. Out of Chicago founder Chris Smith will be on hand, as will other members from the Out of New York Conference team and resident New Yorker Clifford Pickett, who knows the city like the back of his hand.

When

Friday, October 14, 2016 at 8 p.m.

Where

We’ll meet outside of the Chelsea Market in New York City, and then walk from there. Here’s a quick link to a map; it’s located at 75 9th Avenue. Look for the big, lit-up “Chelsea Market” sign out front.

What to Bring

Bring your camera, extra batteries, and your favorite portrait lens. I like to use a 24-70mm. I’d also recommend a wide angle, especially if you want to do some cityscape work. A speed light and a tripod is a great idea too. It might be a chilly fall night, so be sure to bring a sweatshirt or jacket.

The Out of New York Conference

For the first time ever, the team behind the Out of Chicago Conference is traveling to New York City to offer a one-of-a-kind photography experience. World-renowned photographers Rick Sammon, Lindsay Adler, Bryan Peterson, Valerie Jardin, Steve Simon, Vivienne Gucwa and more will be on-hand throughout the weekend teaching classes, leading photowalks and teaching workshops.

There are still spots available, for just $349! All classes take place at the CUNY Graduate Center, right near the Empire State Building in Manhattan.

If you’ve never attended a photography conference, this is a great one to get started with! There’s lots of hands-on learning and all of the instructors make themselves available to help you in any way they can.

If you’re interested in registering for the conference, check out outofnewyork.com and see the complete schedule or get started on booking your trip. I hope to see you there!
