There are times to use a tripod, and times not too. The important part is to learn which is which, and when its time to use one, use a decent one and use it properly.
Although I’ve voted for occasionally, I always use a tripod for long exposures, and are use a tripod if it’s in the blue hour. I have no problem getting images that are plenty sharp enough for my needs. Plus, I love the freedom and flexibility of handheld.
Always in the studio for macros and stuff. And occasionally outdoors for the mushroom or flower. I always take one along when I travel by car and then almost never use it; did I mention I’m not a landscape photographer, but I always want to be ready if I change my mind.
