I received my Sony a7II last Friday and immediately grabbed a lens to rifle off some test shots. I’ve already shared my thoughts on how solid of a camera it is. However, when I tried to import the RAW files off of the SD card, I was greeted by a momentary state confusion when I saw row after row of ‘Preview not available for this file’ in Lightroom’s Importer.
Alas, I had forgotten what happens when a new camera is released before RAW profile support is available!
Fortunately, Adobe is making good on catching up with the new hardware that constantly hits the market by releasing Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1 with support for the Sony a7II along with seven new lens profiles. While this doesn’t benefit Lightroom users today, Adobe is expected to release an update of Lighroom 5.7.1 within the next week, bringing parity to the supported RAW profiles.
Adobe has released an update to Lightroom 5.7.1 with support for Sony a7II RAW files and other bug fixes. You can download it below:
Adobe also released an update to its DNG Converter 8.7. You can download that below:
Note: If you want those raw files in Lightroom today, just use the DNG converter. The new files have all of their raw characteristics and will work with the current (and even past) versions of Lightroom.
Additionally, I work for Sony as the Alpha Team's Social & Content Strategist and am a member of Sony’s Artisans of Imagery program. I also contribute regularly to Photofocus, Lynda.com and a variety of other online and print publications.
Admittedly, I have [not-so] tiny obsessions with long-exposure photography, neutral density filters and fisheye lenses. Basically, my passion is helping others help themselves with their pursuits of photography.
