I received my Sony a7II last Friday and immediately grabbed a lens to rifle off some test shots. I’ve already shared my thoughts on how solid of a camera it is. However, when I tried to import the RAW files off of the SD card, I was greeted by a momentary state confusion when I saw row after row of ‘Preview not available for this file’ in Lightroom’s Importer.

Alas, I had forgotten what happens when a new camera is released before RAW profile support is available!

Fortunately, Adobe is making good on catching up with the new hardware that constantly hits the market by releasing Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1 with support for the Sony a7II along with seven new lens profiles. While this doesn’t benefit Lightroom users today, Adobe is expected to release an update of Lighroom 5.7.1 within the next week, bringing parity to the supported RAW profiles.

Note: If you want those raw files in Lightroom today, just use the DNG converter. The new files have all of their raw characteristics and will work with the current (and even past) versions of Lightroom.
