I want to take you back to when you were a high school senior. Whether you sported a mullet, bell bottoms, shoulder pads or maybe you were one of the fortunate fellas that could grow a mustache, the last year of high school has always been an epically important stage in our lives. And even more epic was booking a session with the best photographer in town to model for a day for your senior portraits. If you’re like me, you can look back and remember the locations, the photographer’s interaction and even the somewhat uncomfortable yet trendy poses. Or maybe you were cool enough to wear your highly decorated letterman jacket while holding a photoshopped, flaming football. Either way, senior portraits have changed with the progression of photography and it’s people like Seattle photographer, Michelle Moore, that are pushing the envelope to make senior portraits the most positive and incredible experience for her young clients.

If you were once again in your youthful state, imagine showing up to your senior portraits with a professional stylist along with a hair and makeup team that coached you and styled you to near perfection. Imagine that stylist sticking around the entirety of the shoot to fix hair fly-aways and wardrobe malfunctions. Now imagine the photographer bringing you confidence, capturing you as the cool or beautiful person you are and skillfully capturing you in the best possible light. Then, when you are presented with your images, you are handed a gift of great memories and photographs that look like they came right out of a magazine. Ladies and gents, meet Michelle Moore.

Michelle Moore and her team have pioneered a unique experience for her young seniors. Working with clients like Amazon.com, REPORT footwear, Jessica Lowndes of 90210 and publications such as Inc. Magazine, Seattle Magazine, JNSQ and ZOOEY, Moore takes the same approach for her high school portraits that she does her commercial clients. Michelle is known for her natural and fresh approach to photographing teens, and starting the successful hair & makeup trend in high school senior portrait photography. And after seeing her fresh photos, you might just think once or twice about bringing your senior portraits and the experience you provide to a whole new level.

“The best advice I can offer any aspiring photographer is to get out there and put in hours of practice – whether you are shooting paid clients yet or not, it matters to photograph as much as you can! Be willing to put the hours into your craft and work hard. There are no big rewards without first taking big risks. As with anything you do in life, consistency and hours of practice pay off. Don’t forget to have fun!”

A few of Michelle’s favorite things:

  • Canon 85mm 1.2L
  • Small Step Stool – can’t live without it!
  • Photoflex 5-in-1 reflector
