Not really. More like he went on to the next moment. Read his profile later today. I’m pretty sure he could afford the film.
The film comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I still feel it’s short sighted. Imagine if Thomas Edison had said, “I make only one, well thought out attempt at each of my inventions. Then move on to the next.” It leaves too much unexplored. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found what I’m looking for in my images after I take time to review them afterwards. He demonstrates the discipline a lot of photographers don’t have, myself included.
If you watch the documentary about him on YouTube you’ll find that he only ever takes one photo of one thing so he doesn’t have to decide which is the best of multiple images.
