Why I picked this image:

This image by Hans Severin is a great example of how the repetition of structures and patterns on more than one layer can turn into a great stage for a clever street photo. In this image, we have horizontal lines on the glass window and they seem to continue on the sports bag and even show up as parallel lines on the bench. The composition is critical for these shots, so take the time to compose it carefully if it is a fairly static situation. The addition of perfect timing comes into play when you have a moving subject that you need to align into the scene – just like on the Juxtaposition photos that I have picked in

The composition is critical for these shots, so take the time to compose the scene carefully if it is a fairly static situation. The addition of perfect timing comes into play when you have a moving subject that you need to align into the scene – just like on the Juxtaposition photos that I have picked in the previous month.

Train your eye for these kinds of scenes next time you are out on the street with your camera. And for those who are still a bit shy about taking photos of strangers on the street, this may be a good way to get comfortable with this genre as you can often take interesting pictures even from the side of the back of people.
