Sometimes I forget to pack a remote shutter release when I stumble upon an HDR scene. Luckily I can set up a Sony A7 series camera to shoot a bracketed series of images with a self-timer.
Press the Menu button on the upper-left backside of the camera. Navigate to the page 2 of the Image menu and scroll down to Bracket Settings. Press Ok.
Inside Bracket Settings, click on Self Timer.
I like to assign a 2-second self timer. Scroll down to BRK 2 and click Ok.
To shoot with the self-timer, all you need to do is enable the Continuous Bracketing Drive Mode (BRK C) and the camera will count down and take the shots when you press the shutter.
Nick…which A7 series camera are you using? I have an A7ii, and it does not offer Bracket Settings in the menu. Thought there might be another firmware update, but I have the latest which is v3.10.
Hi Wes – I used an A7R Mark II and an A7S Mark II. There is bracketing available on the A7 Mark II, which you can access under the Drive Mode menu option. I’m not sure where the Bracket Settings menu option is there.
Nick, those settings are not available on the “A7 Series” of cameras. They are only available on A7RM2 and A7SM2.
This is so cool, I wish Canon had it. Will there be a solution for that?
You can look to TriggerTrap
Huh? Canon have had this for years? I’m so mad Sony didn’t include it for my Sony A7II though…. :(
Canon does have it. In your exposure compensation/AEB Setting menu option. You can use the timer and AF buttons to move the single exposure compensation or you can use the control wheel to expand the single point into a three point exposure which the camera will shoot automatically until you set it back to a single point.
If you set a bracket, you can set the timer as you normally would.
Have you tried shooting an HDR timelapse? I’m trying to figure out if this is possible with the A7RII. In theory, my intervalometer should be able to trigger a set of bracketed shots as long as the shots can occur within the interval and there is time to write the files, but I can’t seem to get the camera to fire off more than one set of brackets. Has anyone had success with Sony Alpha for this? I used to be able to do this with Canon.
HI there. Test driving a A6000. I do not see this setting for Timed Bracket shooting. What can i use so the camera doesn’t shake?
