I was at the Memphis Zoos Northwest Passage exhibit which has a Bald Eagle aviary for Eagles that have been too badly injured to be returned to the wild. I had been there many times before but the Eagles mostly sit in their tree and don’t do much. This time I noticed one of the Eagles was hopping around on the ground towards a pool of water in the aviary. I was hoping to capture the Eagle taking a drink, maybe with a reflection in the pool or water dripping from his beak. Instead he plunged his entire head underwater and came up shaking like a dog. It looked like he was going to continue to do this so I just kept shooting on burst mode and using AI Servo mode to focus. I filled up a memory card and had to change cards while he continued his head dunking routine. It turned out I had three shots with the water drops frozen and his head in sharp focus.
