Photography is rich with light modifiers. Umbrellas, soft boxes, reflectors, v-flats, diffusion panels and so on. Two of them though, the ring flash and the beauty dish are somewhat mysterious-certainly true for the ring flash more than the beauty dish. I am doing a live demo session at Photoshop World in Las Vegas that shows both lights and how to use them.

A ring light is a flash tube that circles around the lens. The beauty dish is a wide round reflector between 18 and 45 inches in diameter that has an anti hot spot plate in front of the flash tube to create even light. Each has as distinctive quality that I explain and demonstrate in my class Ring Flash, Beauty Dish at Photoshop World on September 4th.

There’s more in this video preview of the class. I’ll see you at Photoshop World!
