Gregory Crewdson is an American photographer who is known for creating elaborate photos. His subject matter is usually scenes from American homes or neighborhoods. He’s considered a fine art photographer and visual artist. He approaches the process much like a filmmaker… often building elaborate sets and using large crews (sometimes only shooting a few photos after weeks).
His work is included in many collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He has also received numerous awards including the Skowhegan Medal for Photography, the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship and the Aaron Siskind Fellowship.
Here is a short profile of the artist.

Thanks to Photofocus for the intro to Christopher Peterson. Follow the link below to check out the story about him and a wee video.
I feel slightly inadequate after watching the video and checking out his work…he’s not only a great street photographer (aka paparazzi to the stars), but he creates these fantastic worlds as well. What an inspiring fusion of cinematography and photography!
Gregory’s work is awesome! I have Beneath the Roses book sitting on my desk right now :-)
Strange, that link didn’t work for me.
There is an excellent documentary about him called “Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters”. Really interesting!
