Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist. His specialty is focussing on documenting the social classes of England as well as the economy of the Western world. He has published approximately 40 photo books as well as exhibited extensively. He cites that his grandfather, George Parr (an amateur photographer) as his early influence.

His style combines close-up photography with highly saturated colors. He often puts his subjects “under the microscope” in their own environment. His work often contains humor or satire, but is often subtle and missed.

Remember I make serious photographs disguised as entertainment. That’s part of my mantra. I make the pictures acceptable in order to find the audience but deep down there is actually a lot going on that’s not sharply written in your face. If you want to read it you can read it.
