We feel like any of our finalists could be worthy, but in the end our panel of judges came to a decision on the first round. We’re proud to announce that Christian del Rosario from Attreo Studio Photography (
http://attreostudio.com/about/about.html
) is our grand prize winner.

The cornucopia of prizes you see pictured above are on their way this week to Christian and we sincerely hope he can benefit by the award.

It’s been a long and tough road running this contest and we’ve decided to take a year off before we do it again. But look for the same thing in 2011.

Thanks to all who participated and especially thanks as well as congratulations go out to Christian.

Well done. You’re the Photofocus Emerging Photographer of the Year.

The contest is now over and we’re not accepting any more entries.

I’m proud to announce our 24th and final finalist. Eddy Joaquim is an architectural photographer from San Francisco.

Eddy takes a building and tells its story with a camera. He has really big vision and his images have lots of pop – which I really like. Many architectural photographers take a steril approach to their work. Not Eddy. His images sing. They make me want to go visit these buildings and see them for myself. They are rich and expressive and certainly worthy of a look.

Take a look at Eddy’s work here and congratulations to Eddy. We’re going to announce the grand prize winner some time between now and the end of August. We’d hoped to do it by August 15 but that may not be possible since it happens to fall on the day that the book I am writing with Skip Cohen is due at the publisher. As soon as possible, the winner will be announced here and on Twitter.

I want to thank the more than 1500 photographers who entered the contest as well as all of our sponsors. I wish everyone the best of luck and I hope this contest helped more than one of the finalists get at least some of the attention they deserve.

I’m proud to announce our 22nd finalist. Levet, Christophe (aka Chris) is a portrait photographer from Grenoble, France.

It’s easy to get into a rut when making portraits. It’s hard to come up with something fresh. It’s even harder to do that and maintain a definable style. Chris has no problem with either. His portrait work is beautiful, edgy and very fresh. His use of light is masterful. His subjects have great expressions – which is the real secret to a great portrait. He calls these Nouveaux Portraits and I really like them.

Take a look at Chris’ work here and congratulations to Chris. We’re going to announce the next finalist in two weeks.

Here’s a complete list of the finalists so far:

We’re getting down to the wire. We have three more finalists to pick over the next six weeks. Then two weeks later, we’ll announce the grand prize winner. Good luck and there’s still time to enter.

I’m proud to announce our 19th finalist. Casey Lessard is a newspaper photographer from Parkhill, Ontario, Canada.

It’s easy to look at newspaper photography as mundane and routine. But Casey shows that newspaper photojournalism doesn’t have to be boring. Casey’s images are whimsical and are a great example of good photojournalism.

Take a look at Casey’s work here and congratulations to Casey. We’re going to announce the next finalist in two weeks.

I’m proud to announce our 20th finalist. Luis Argerich is a landscape photographer from Argentina.

Arresting, inspiring and beautiful are the three best adjectives that I can come up with to describe Luis’ work. His understanding of, pursuit of, and use of light in the landscape is amazing. His vision goes beyond the normal pretty picture to something special.

Take a look at Luis’ work here and congratulations to Luis. We’re going to announce the next finalist in two weeks.

I’m proud to announce our 19th finalist. Chris Martin is a travel photographer from Alberta, Canada. His gallery
“our world: people of myanmar” is very well thought out and the images are publication-quality. His use of lines and iteration in his composition is what caught my attention. Add to that a definite sense of style, great use of color and images with lots of pop and you have what it takes to be a finalist in our EPY competition.

Take a look at Chris’ work here and congratulations to Chris. We’re going to announce the next finalist in two weeks.
