Amanda Diaz 10

If you are seeking dreamy, fantasy images that take you to places you thought you would only see in your dreams, Amanda Diaz is the photographer for you.  But Amanda isn’t just a great fantasy photographer; she’s also great when it comes to fashion. “[My work] goes from straight to the point fashion to creative and surreal. I would say I am drawn much more to the artistic side of things rather than the technical aspects. I love being able to experiment and try out different ways of doing things, its how I learn.”

Amanda, like many successful artistic photographers, was looking for something she could love in her job. “I would definitely say its more art than work. Work was going to my 9-5 job and looking at the clock every 5 minutes.

It wasn’t always photography for Amanda. In fact, she didn’t originally start out with photography as her goal. “I started because I was studying Graphic Design originally and had to choose an additional subject to get my certificate. I decided I would just take the photography class to get it over with. I had no intention of becoming a photographer and no idea it would take me to where I am today. I also didn’t realize I would fall in love with it like I have.”

Now that she has found success behind the lens, Amanda has her sights set on much more. “My goals are to honestly keep improving. I am really never completely satisfied with my work. I feel likes its always in progress. I have made small short term goals and have achieved some and still working on others. I want to continue to do what I’m doing, network like crazy, travel, keep learning and teaching workshops.  I’m pretty happy with the way things are going.”

“My sources of inspiration comes in many ways. I love to watch movies that have been filmed with the style of Cinematography, I think its amazing how you can sit and watch a movie like ‘300’ or ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ and pretty much pause each scene and it will look like a beautiful photo. I also love classical paintings, this is where I take a lot of those elements and tie them into my portraiture work. Light is also another thing that seems to inspire me. I do draw it from other photographer too, Lee Jeffries is actually one of my inspirations. His style is nothing like mine, but it’s gritty, and emotional and almost haunts you when you look at his work. I wish to take some of those same elements and make them my own but in my own way.”

Amanda’s Advice to Emerging Photographers

“I would say to continue to always learn and grow. Don’t let yourself get stuck or bored. Seek out inspiration all around you, not just by looking at other photographers work.”

“Don’t let others get you down or tell you that you can’t do something. Believe in yourself! – plain and simple.”
