The majority of photographers still seek “artistic” effects, imitating other mediums of graphic expression. The result is a hybrid product that does not succeed in giving their work the most valuable characteristic it should have, —photographic quality.

  1. Tina assumes that a “hybrid product” is not legitimate art, that if it is photographic it should remain true to an ideal called “photographic quality.” My opinion differs. I think that any medium should be used in any way possible to express the ideals of beauty in the mind of the artist and the beholder. If most photographers are violating the “photogrtaphic quality” ideal and their clientele like their work, then that’s something hard to argue against.

  2. I have great respect and admiration for her, but I disagree strongly with her position on photography. For this day and age, it is way too limiting.
