You’ve seen our recent announcements about our partnership with LensRentals.com and the exciting value they bring to the content of Photofocus.  LensRentals.com was the very first photographic rental company to offer an optional damage waiver program to its customers. Since then, they have continued to develop innovative options for renters.

LensCapToday, they announced the exciting Lenscap and Lenscap+ protection plans that limit renters liability in case of a covered event causing damage or total loss of products on your rental.

And now to celebrate their new optional add-on plans, LensRentals.com will be giving away a hot new camera to one lucky winner!  This winner will get the chance to choose either a brand new Canon 5D Mk III or a brand new Nikon D800.

    • The rules of our contests are posted here. A twitter account is absolutely free to set up. You can choose to never use it. But its our contest and our rules. Seems like there are bigger problems to solve than winning a free camera.

  27. Just want to check, is the following message EXACTLY the message required? There is an open quote hanging out to the left of the following message, is this a trick where if the open quote is not used, the entry is disqualified or is the following message as I typed it the EXACT text required to participate?

  28. Hoping to win a Canon 5DIII, I already have a Nikon D800… my fourth one.

It took three bad ones to get one good one.

Bought first from Best Buy locally here in Vegas, tested it on my LENS ALIGN focusing tool… to get a Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8, Nikkor 85mm f1.4 and my Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 to focus accurately, I would have had to set the AF Fine Tune adjustment in the camera to from -4 to +18 on respective lenses.

    Entirely UNacceptable!

So I took it back, thanks to Best Buy’s SUPER DUPER 15 day no questions asked return policy.

Second one. EVEN WORSE! 70-200mm f2.8 was +21, which is not even available on the camera. Took it back.

Third one had to be the charm… STUCK PIXELS GALORE! So bad, they visibly showed on the images.

Decided to switch stores, took #3 back to another Best Buy on the other side of town.

I asked right off the bat what the serial numbers of the cameras they had in stock were. The previous three cameras were all within three or four units of the same serial numbers… ie; same production batch, so… the salesman gave me their list of serials, they were 1,100+ NEWER in production time, so I figured they were likely from an entirely different production batch. They were.

D800 #4 turned out after testing to be dead on with focus, except for my Nikkor 85mm f1.4 which was +4 (I even tested fellow photographers lenses on the previous three bodies, none of their lenses focused without correction either.)

So, it took FOUR (4) Brand New Nikon D800 bodies for me to FINALLY get one that actually worked. I have been shooting exclusively Nikon 35mm cameras since 1973, have owned $164,000 in Nikon gear and I never had any piece of the 21 Nikon film systems I owned fail, in one case, even after my D3HP was submerged in a swimming pool while hanging around my neck, I did a fresh water purge and it still worked.

Digital? Been a bit more of a headache… back when the D300 first came out, I bought one a week after it was introduced… the first one, STUCK PIXELS, the next one just would not focus at all, the third… PERFECT!

Sold it the moment the D700 came out, owned two D700s, never an issue, they worked flawlessly, D3 worked great, D800… NOT SO MUCH!

So, I am a tad disappointed in Nikon, whom I have supported for 41 years as my sole 35mm format camera provider.

Perhaps if I win the Canon 5D MKIII I can see how many Canon’s I have to buy to get one that works correctly.

IS THERE NO QUALITY CONTROL IN 2014?

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! (I sincerely hope if I do not win it… ONE OF YOU DOES! How is that for diplomacy?)

Odds are, I will already rent a few Canon 5D MKIIIs by the time this contest is over and may even own one by then, but…. TWO WOULD BE NICE!
