With the Crop Tool active, in order to preserve the cropped off area, you’ll want to make sure that the Delete Cropped Pixels option is not checked. This way, if you need to adjust the crop at a later point, and bring back some of the original data, you can easily do so.

This tip is for Ps6 and CC, correct? It’s not available in Ps5.
You can do it in cs5. Make locked layer a true layer. Double click and name. Crop image and uncheck delete pixels in option bar.
Cool!!! Thanks Richard!!
Have a great day and a better weekend!!
Hmmm, doesn’t seem to work.
I’ve unchecked the “delete” and it checks the “hide” button.
Hide is nondestructive. You can then use the Reveal command under Edit menu to restore pixels
Wow!!! Works.
Opened a file, made the layer change, saved it as a new test file, cropped it, saved then closed it, quite photoshop, re-opened it, and “Reveal All” still showed the whole photo.
That is an incredibly power tool.
Thanks Richard. You are very helpful.
good tip, simple and efficient.
I’m assuming this wouldn’t apply anyone in PSE? I’ve got version 11.
Can’t say.
