When you decide to photograph Reflection Lake Sunrise at Mt. Rainier – you give up the chance to photograph Tipsoo Lake Sunrise at the same time.

Remember, when you’re deciding what to photograph, there is ALWAYS an opportunity cost. Pointing your lens in one direction necessarily means pointing it away from several other directions.

Are you missing something?

This is why subjects matter. This is why you scout. This is why you have a plan and work the plan. When you photograph, the cost of every single photograph you make is the one you didn’t make.

Think about it.
